Home / Safety and privacy
Safety and privacy, in plain English.
People talk to Be Again on some of their hardest days. That’s a responsibility we take seriously. Here’s how it works.
When things are serious
It stays with you. If something you say suggests you might be in danger, Be Again won’t end the chat, hand you a number and disappear, or hide behind a safety screen. It stays calm, helps you reach someone who can be with you in person, and keeps talking while you do.
In a crisis, Be Again never limits you or asks you to pay, whatever plan you’re on. It’s honest about what it is: AI, not an emergency service, a doctor or a therapist. That’s why it helps you reach people who are.
Withdrawal can be dangerous. If you drink heavily every day, or use benzodiazepines, stopping suddenly can cause seizures. Speak to your GP or 111 before you stop.
Your data
The short version: it’s yours.
- Your conversations are private.
- You can see, change or delete everything RecoveryDNA remembers.
- It only knows places you mention. It doesn’t use your location.
- We never sell your data or use what you tell Be Again for advertising.
- The chat on this website doesn’t save anything you type.
- We’re a UK team and we follow UK GDPR. Health information is treated as special category data, with extra protection.
- To save a founding place we only need your email, and we never ask about your history.
Read the privacy policy for founding places. The full app privacy policy will be published before launch.
Families, linking and clinics
If you’re in recovery
Linked family members can’t read your conversations or your RecoveryDNA. They only see what you choose to share, and you can change that whenever you like.
If it’s someone you love
Your conversations are private too, including from the person you’re worried about. Anyone who’s linked can stop sharing at any time.
If you joined through a clinic
Your clinic only sees what you agree to share, like whether you’ve checked in and an alert if you might be at risk. They never see what you write to Be Again. Someone from your clinic can ask to join a chat, and they only join if you say yes.
How we keep it safe
Every release is tested against crisis scenarios before it goes out, along with slip-ups, intoxication and family conflict.
It’s built to stay grounded: no false promises, built to avoid medical advice and made-up facts, and to say when it isn’t sure. When a conversation needs a human, it says so, and stays while you reach one.
If you ever think it got something wrong, tell us at hello@beagain.app. We read every message.
