Home / How it works

One app that changes how it talks to fit you.

Be Again is AI you can talk to about drinking, drugs and recovery, or about someone you love. Underneath every reply it’s paying attention to how you are, what you’ve told it before and what kind of help this moment needs. Pick who you are to see what that looks like.

Keep thinking about going to the shop.
I’m glad you messaged first. What’s going on in your head right now?
Just want tonight to be over.
Fair. I get why one feels like it’d make tonight shorter. Let’s get you through the next hour instead. Can you stay put and talk to me for a bit?

What it’s doing: being honest about the urge, then shrinking the goal to something you can manage tonight.

He’s not home and his phone’s off.
That’s a frightening place to wait. Have you heard anything since he left?
Nothing since 9.
OK. Let’s write one short message together, then decide what you’ll do if you’ve heard nothing by 2. You don’t have to sort the rest tonight.

What it’s doing: keeping you steady, helping with the words, and giving you one clear plan instead of a list.

Said I’d have two on Friday. Got home at 4.
How are you feeling this morning?
Rough. And annoyed at myself.
That’s fair, and there’s no telling off here. When you’re ready, want to look at where the night turned? It’s often somewhere between the second and the third.

What it’s doing: no label, no lecture. Getting curious about the pattern so you can decide what you want to change.

It talks the way you talk.

Short replies. One question at a time, sometimes none. It matches how you talk and it catches sarcasm. It uses your own words back to you and it doesn’t lecture.

  • It follows up on the thing you started to say and didn’t finish
  • It doesn’t try to fix everything in one message
  • It knows when a big question can wait until you’re steadier
Be Again
9:47pm
Two things have wound me up today. First my boss had a go in front of everyone.
That’s humiliating. And the second thing?
My ex texted. Absolutely wonderful day.
Ha. Sounds like it’s been anything but. Which one is still sitting with you tonight?

It knows what kind of moment you’re in.

The same message can need very different replies. Be Again reads the moment and changes how it helps, without announcing that it’s doing it.

01Slowing things down

When everything’s loud, it keeps replies short and steady and stays with you.

My head’s spinning, it’s all too much
I’m here. Let’s just do the next minute together. Where are you right now?

02Honest about the urge

It won’t pretend the pull isn’t real. Then it shrinks the goal to something you can manage.

One won’t hurt
I get why one feels like it’d help tonight. You also know how tomorrow goes. Just the next hour?

03Off the loop

When a message or memory keeps going round, it gently moves your attention to something you can do now.

I keep rereading what she said
That message isn’t going anywhere tonight. What did you say you’d do after work?

04Staying with you

Walking past the pub or waiting for a taxi, it keeps you company with short check-ins, step by step.

Leaving now, same route as last time
Good. Message me at the corner.

05One clear next step

When you’re exhausted, it gives you one simple suggestion instead of a menu.

Too tired to think
Then don’t. Glass of water, phone on charge, lights off. That’s it.

06Getting curious

On a steadier day, it helps you look at patterns and what’s behind them.

Why is it always Fridays?
Good question. What’s different about Friday at 6 compared to Tuesday?

Swipe for all six

What happens each time you send a message

A general AI answers the message in front of it. Be Again answers you, and this is how.

  1. You talkTyped or a voice note, however it comes out.
  2. It reads the momentHow you’re feeling, what you’re asking for, and whether you might need extra help to stay safe.
  3. RecoveryDNA updatesNew people, places, triggers and wins join what it keeps in mind. Older ones are weighed up.
  4. It chooses how to helpSlow things down, get curious, interrupt an urge, stay with you or give one clear step.
  5. It repliesGrounded in your life, using only the context that’s useful right now.
  6. It learns from how that wentWhat helped, and what didn’t, shapes the next conversation.
How RecoveryDNA works

Between conversations

Check-ins at the hard times

A quiet message at the times you find hardest, like Friday at six or the walk home from work. You choose when, and you can turn them off.

Voice notes

When typing is too much, just talk. Voice notes are part of Premium, with full voice conversations planned for later.

Your month, in plain words

A short summary of how things have been and what’s helped. Premium adds detailed reports you can take to therapy or a meeting.

What Be Again isn’t

Being honest about this matters as much as anything else on this site.

It isn’t a therapist or a doctor.

It won’t diagnose you or tell you what medication to take. It can help you find therapy or treatment when you want it.

It doesn’t leave you on your own.

If you might be in danger, it won’t end the chat or hand you a number and disappear. It helps you reach someone who can be with you, and keeps talking while you do. It isn’t an emergency service, and it’s honest about that. See help available now.

It doesn’t replace your people.

Meetings, sponsors, friends, family and your GP. Be Again works alongside them and often nudges you back towards them.

It doesn’t decide what recovery looks like.

Stop, cut down, 12 steps or none. It works with your way.
