Home / Help available now

If you need help right now.

These people can be with you today. On a phone, tap a number to call. Be Again isn’t an emergency service, but in the app it stays with you while you reach them.

If someone’s in danger

Call 999 and stay with them.

If someone is unconscious, can’t be woken, is having a fit or is struggling to breathe, call 999 and stay with them. Put them on their side. Don’t give them more drink or drugs, and don’t try to make them sick. Tell the call handler what they’ve taken if you know. If opioids might be involved and you have naloxone, use it.

If you’re worried someone might hurt themselves, it’s OK to ask them directly. Stay with them if you can, and call 999 or Samaritans.

If it’s you

You don’t have to get through tonight alone.

If you’re having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, Samaritans answer any time on 116 123, free, or you can text SHOUT to 85258. If you might act on them, call 999.

Withdrawal can be dangerous. Stopping suddenly after heavy daily drinking, or after benzodiazepines, can cause fits. Talk to your GP or call 111 first. If someone is shaking badly, confused, seeing things or having a fit, call 999.

In Northern Ireland there’s no NHS 111. Call your GP or out-of-hours service, or Lifeline on 0808 808 8000.

If it’s someone you love

Look after yourself as well.

If they’re in danger, call 999. If it’s the worry that’s too much, Al-Anon supports families and friends on 0800 0086 811. If you’re ever frightened of them, the domestic abuse helplines above are free and confidential.

Be Again is for adults. If you’re under 18, Childline is free any time on 0800 1111.
